Research

Ongoing Research focuses on biomarkers determination and analytical validation of biosensors for the diagnosis and monitoring in human health. Francesca BELLAGAMBI contributes to two research projects:

  • development and validation of biosensors for the determination of peptide epitopes linked to hazelnut and peanut allergy – Project POC4Allergies – Point-of-Care system for personalized diagnosis and assessment of treatment efficacy for allergies (Project ID: ERAPERMED2019-127) coordinated by Abdelhamid Errachid (ISA) 
  • antibodies functionalization of nanoparticles to detect specific heart failure antigens in saliva as well as development and validation of biosensors for the determination of salivary biomarkers of heart failure – Project KardiaTool – An integrated POC solution for non-invasive diagnosis and therapy monitoring of Heart Failure patients (EU H2020 Project ID: 768686) coordinated by A. Biography

Dr. Francesca G. Bellagambi graduated in Analytical Toxicology in 2007 from the Faculty of Pharmacy, and in Chemistry cum laude in 2012 from the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry (DCCI), both from the University of Pisa, Italy. In 2016, she hold a doctorate degree cum laude in Chemistry and Materials Science from the DCCI. From 2016 to 2019 she was post-doctoral researcher at University of Pisa and her research activities were mainly focused on analytical methods (e.g. chromatography, mass spectrometry, hyphenated techniques, and immunochemical methods) for the determination of chemical biomarkers in biological fluids (e.g. oral fluid and exhaled breath) for the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases. In April 2019, she joined the Institute for Analytical Science in April 2019 as a post-doctoral researcher, working on analytical methods and biosensor development and validation for disease detection by saliva analysis.
Francesca BELLAGAMBI received twice the Seal of Excellence Certificate for two proposals within Marie Skodowska-Curie actions individual fellowships (2018, 2019). She is author of 29 articles in peer-reviewed journals (5 submitted)
