Research

His mission within the TRACES group is the development of targeted analyzes of priority or emerging organic micropollutants (such as pesticides, PAHs, flame retardants, drugs and perfluorinated substances), in the form of traces or even ultra-traces in different complex biological and environmental matrices (different types of water, sediments, bee matrices, fish organs and terrestrial organisms) by gas or liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry.

 

Biography

Florent LAFAY obtained his DUT in 1999 (University of Clermont-Ferrand 1). He joined the CNRS in 2001 at the Central Analysis Service (USR 59) and worked in the Biochemistry department for the analysis of doping products in biological matrices by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry.

In 2010, the Biochemistry department merged with the newly created TRACES group, which enabled Florent Lafay to work on new families of molecules: micropollutants (PAHs, pesticides, flame retardants and perfluorinated substances).

Since 2011, Florent LAFAY has integrated the UMR 5280 (Institute of Analytical Sciences – ISA) where he is in charge of gas chromatographs and their coupling with mass spectrometry (quadrupole, time-of-flight) of the TRACES Group.

Since 2016, he has completed his panel of techniques using liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry.

He is involved in health & safety concerns at ISA. He is:

  • Member of the “Health and Safety Committee” since January 1st 2016 ;
  • Competent Person in Radiation Protection since November 1st 2008 ;
  • Member of the Security Team as a first-aid worker.
