Research

Julien Terrasse is currently a PhD student under the supervision of Hervé Casabianca. His research focuses on the development of analytical methods to detect and identify non-intentionally added substances from can coatings in order to increase understanding of the mechanisms leading to the formation and the migration of these substances. In fine, the knowledge of these mechanisms could be usefully in the development of future coatings to minimise migration in the packaged foodstuff.

This CIFRE PhD thesis is funded by a company in the domain of paints and coatings, and in cooperation with the Centre Technique de la Conservation des Produits Agricoles (CTCPA – Bourg en Bresse).

Biography

Julien Terrasse graduated in 2018 from the Ecole supérieur de Chimie Physique Electronique (CPE Lyon engineer diploma (MSc) in chemistry – process engineering) and the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (Master degree in analytical chemistry).
He worked from 2016 to 2017 for Henkel, in a control and quality analytical laboratory in Belgium. He did his 6 months master final project from March to September 2018 in Institut des Sciences Analytiques (ISA) on a project gathering three different research units: the “Isotopic and Organic” platform, “Natural and Biobased Products” and “Plasma spectroscopies and hyphenated methods & speciation”. Then he began to work for one of the leading companies in the domain of paints and coatings, first as a R&D chemist in analytical chemistry, then for doctoral studies (CIFRE Thesis) under the supervision of Hervé Casabianca in the Natural and Biobased Products research group.
